The public symposium is part of Architectural History and Theory: Current Events and Debates in final semester of third year in 2008 coordinated by Charles Rice.

Students participated in the symposium through weekly seminars, discussions and research papers that are carried all the way through the end of semester where a public lecture takes place.

The symposium is an open forum for formal discussions of the topics generated during undertaking the weekly research topics which was divided into three parts:
//Interior/City
//Interior/Image
//Interior/environment

The two-hours public event was conducted by students and for students.

As summed up by Charles Rice:

“To an increasing extent, contemporary urban experience is defined by being inside, whether literally in terms of being within enclosed space, or in terms of how boundaries are controlled and policed through different forms of screening and surveillance.” (Charles Rice)

“In this latter sense, the definition of space and enclosure through images presents a compelling contemporary situation. This study proposes that there is a complex dynamic of image and space at play in spatial definition and inhabitation, and it prompts an evaluation of this condition through the modern concept of the interior.” (Charles Rice)
